What Are the Types of Lubricants and How to Use Them?

Hopefully, this handy guide will help you to select the proper lubricant according to your needs. Do you want to know more? If yes, then read this article.

If your industrial equipment or household machines are not running smoothly, then it is time to apply the proper lubricant to run those machines even more fluently than ever.  Generally, lubricants are most commonly used to lessen friction between different surfaces, but you have to understand that not all lubricants are the same.

Hence In this article, we are going to describe the classification of the lubricant and their uses manual.

Commonly there are 4 types of lubricants.

1. Oils:

Oils produced by the lubricant oil company are thin fluids composed of extended polymer chains, with additions for several extra properties. Ordinary additives contain antioxidants to conserve the oil from oxidizing, attrition inhibitors to avoid parts from eroding, and detergents to protect deposits from forming. These long polymer chains are difficult to extrude from between surfaces, making oils effective as a greasy cover between them. The weight of the Oils differs due to the degree of their viscosity. The oil with low viscosity is thinner and easier to flow as compared to the high viscosity one.

Now, let's discuss the using guide of oils -

  • Before using the oil for your machine parts, manufacturers of the lubricant oil company always advise you to take a look to confirm that the surface is clean and dust-free. Because if you apply the oil on the dusty surface that will eventually gum up and make the machine even slower than before.

  • Due to the liquidity nature, you can apply it on any surfaces without opening the whole machine.

  • After using oil lubrication, don't wash your machine with water. Because it could wash out the layer of oils. Hence the application of oils will no longer be effective to the machine.

2. Grease:

Greases are typically formulated by mineral oil and blending it with lithium-based soaps. Sometimes molybdenum disulfide or graphite can also be blended with these lubricants. Greases can combine well with the oil’s lubricants which enhance stickiness and let the lubricant get collected to the outer parts of the machine. Greases are also functioned as a safeguard of the surfaces and can even work as a barrier, conserving the surfaces from all those impurities that can harm the surface. Nowadays, several lubricants manufacturing companies in India produced many types of greases such as silicon grease, white lithium grease, marine grease, etc. These all are applicable in chains, gears.

Now, take a look at the user guide-

  • Due to its extra sticky nature, you should not use it on the fast-moving parts of your machine.

  • You can apply it when you require long time lubricating effects on your machines.

3. Dry Lubricants:

In the dry lubricants, particular types of lubricants are available like silicon, graphite, PTFE, etc. These components have an extremely soapy nature at their molecular level. This property makes them good lubricants which are very much effective for the equipment.  Most of the lubricants manufacturing companies in India made this lubricant in spray forms where the solvents must be water, alcohol, or other volatile liquids. Due to the nature of this solution, it gets evaporated instantly after applying on the surfaces.

This can be available in different forms like powder or spray.

Let's find out the ways of application-

  • You can use it where the oils or greases can't be applicable.

  • If the surfaces are exposed to high heat, dry lubricants are the best option for that kind of equipment.

4. Penetrating Lubricants:

These categories of lubricants built by industrial lubricant manufacturers in India are the protectors of various stuck- bolt troops. Similarly, these covered components, penetrating lubricants are not produced for long-running lubrication. Relatively, just because of their low viscosity, these lubricants are specially manufactured for only one particular purpose which is to penetrate the small breaks or holes over the surfaces, to improve lubrication, and to pull apart the rust.

  • After applying this, don't wash your equipment with water or other liquid.

  • Clean the surface properly before using this type of lubricant.

The industrial lubricant manufacturers in India are producing every kind of lubricant which can be applied to any type of surface.
